What is an LMR Radio?
LMR, or Land Mobile Radio, is a set of frequencies dedicated to business use by the FCC. Requires a business to obtain an FCC license.
What is the difference between PX650 and Performa Series?
PX650 operates on unlicensed FRS frequencies. Performa series operates on licensed LMR UHF frequencies.
Do I need an FCC license to use my Performa radios?
Cobra Performa series radios require an FCC license for LMR frequencies to operate.
Is my Performa radio compatible with other business radios?
Cobra Performa radios are compatible with other UHF LMR radios between 450-470MHz. Confirm radios are programmed to the same frequency and privacy code.
How do I program my radio?
Cobra provides radio programming software for this purpose. You can also use our on-radio advanced programming menu. For help, access the support knowledgebase or Performa manual.
Can I use my Performa radio out of the box?
Yes, as long as your business license is for the default Performa frequencies, you can use the radio out of the box! Cobra Performa radios are pre-programmed to the same channels as other radios on the market.
Will my Performa radios work with other GMRS or FRS radios, like PX650?
No, Performa is a licensed LMR UHF radio. PX650 is an FRS radio and is not compatible with the Performa series.
Can my Performa radio work with repeaters?
Yes, your Performa radio can connect to your LMR repeater. You must program your radio to the repeater channels through our Radio Programming Software. Please confirm you also have an FCC license for repeater use.
How do I charge my Performa radios?
Performa radios can charge in our single dock charger, 6-unit dock charger, and by directly connecting a USB-C cable to the radio. You can also charge spare batteries separately in the dock chargers.
